This 1963 Marconi Model 2004 is a beautifully styled, mid-century portable radio operating on medium wave (MW) and shortwave (SW) bands. It features a unique and distinctive design with a MW/SW band selector, tuning dial, and volume control. The radio runs on four C-cell batteries and is in working condition.
This model is nearly identical to the Toshiba 7TH-486-S. The Canadian Marconi Company (CMC), under a 1954 licensing agreement with the Emerson Radio Export Corporation of New York, was authorized to manufacture and sell radios under the Emerson brand in Canada. However, there is no known licensing agreement between CMC and Toshiba, suggesting that Marconi/Toshiba units were manufactured directly in Japan and imported for Canadian distribution.
The radio powers on and received several AM stations during testing.
Volume is quite loud even at the lowest setting when tuned to strong stations — replacement of the volume potentiometer may be desired for finer control.
Physical condition is excellent for its age, rated 9/10. There is minor wear and a small crack on top (see photos).
Made in Japan by Toshiba (Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co.) and sold in Canada.
Dimensions: Approx. 12" H × 6" D × 3" W
These radios receive meticulous attention, starting with a full disassembly for deep internal and external cleaning to sanitize and remove any contamination. If needed, a two-stage paint process is applied to restore the finish. All necessary electronic repairs are completed to bring the radio back to full working condition. Plastic parts and bezels are wet-sanded to remove scratches and scuffs, then finished with a high-speed polish to restore their original shine. Switches and potentiometers are cleaned and lubricated with premium contact cleaner to ensure smooth, reliable operation.
